art for the everyday

The Ripple Collection

This collection explores the idea of slab as drapery, drawing on the juxtaposition of the hard material with soft and flowing forms. The possibilities and limitations of turning an essentially 2D object into a 3D form with no cutting, folding, or attaching present interesting problems with even more interesting topological solutions.

Experiences and Instruction

Sharing the joy of playing in the mud is one of my favorite parts of being a ceramicist. Whether you’re interested in upping your skill as a handbuiler, a fun date night for you and your partner, additional programming for your ceramics studio or assisted living community, a team-building activity for your organization, I can work with you to create the perfect clay experience to fit your needs. Showcase method, celebrate process

That is how I approach my work, both as an artist and as an educator.

I believe in highlighting construction methods, seams, tool marks, and the material itself, allowing these artifacts of method and process to sing out, keeping the humanity behind the art front-and-center.

I take the same approach with instruction, celebrating the process of learning as its own accomplishment, meeting every student where they are, and making growth and imperfection as transparent as they are esteemed.

My name is Taylor Barton, and I’m glad you’re here.
